The LGBTI Litigant Network participates in the IX regional lecture of ILGALAC in Bolivia (2023)

This Thursday 27 April, during the fourth day of the conference that took place in La Paz, Bolivia; members of our Network were in charge of the workshop “Regional Articulation for Strategic Litigation” built on the national and international experiences that our litigants have faced. In this space, the characteristics and scope of a strategic litigation were made known., and sought to demonstrate its strength as a tool for vindicating the rights of LGBTI+ people in Latin America in the midst of social barriers., policies, cultural and legal barriers that hinder the exercise of their rights.

In this workshop, experiences from Ecuador were shared by Christian Paula from the PAKTA Foundation, who addressed important cases such as equal marriage and the fight for the recognition of Amada's gender identity., a trans girl; From Bolivia, Carla Guardia and Mateo Rodrigo from IGUAL discussed the cases related to the obstacles faced by trans pregnant men in registering their children and the recognition of free unions for same-sex couples., from a case they recently won.

From Central America, Iván Chanis from Fundación Iguales Panama shared his advocacy actions to achieve equal marriage in that country and on behalf of the Catrachas Lesbian Network of Honduras, Indyra Mendoza shared the experience of international litigation regarding the case of Vicky Hernández. All the panelists shared the importance of their work and the support they have had as members of the LGBTI+ Litigators Network of the Americas in the development of strategic litigation and legal advocacy actions..

Finally, George Hale de Promsex, from Peru had a space to talk about the origins of our Network, shared our objectives and the importance that this meeting space has had for litigants from across the region who seek to stop the advance of fundamentalism and achieve the highest levels of legal protection for LGBTI+ people.

We hope to continue weaving ties of joint work and cooperation with various coalitions, as we did on this occasion with ILGALAC, to whom we thank for their invitation to this Conference, and thus strengthen the protection and guarantee of the rights of all LGBTI+ people in the region.
